Three routes to entitlement

You do not have to be the person born there. Entitlement also passes between generations, in the UK, Scotland and Ireland alike, and we need to know from the start on whose basis the claim is made.

You were born and lived in the UK, Scotland or Ireland

Entitlement is assessed on your birth registration and the years you lived in that country.

Your parent was born there and you hold citizenship through them

The claim is made in your name and assessed through the parent born in the UK, Scotland or Ireland. This route is open once citizenship is already in place.

Your grandparent was born there

This route needs a chain of three generations: the grandparent, the linking parent and you. We check it for you.

Your eligibility check

What is your claim based on?
